Need a Brake Replacement? Prevent it with Scheduled Brake Repair!
Even though the modern automotive brake system has been refined for over 100 years and has become extremely dependable and efficient, it is still critical that your automobile’s system is properly serviced. This will help maintain and ensure dependability, safety, and prevent an emergency brake replacement. A necessary brake repair should be taken care of as soon as possible to prevent damage to your vehicle, or endanger the safety of your passengers.
Do you know how brakes work? Simply stated, this system consists of disc brakes in the front and either discs or drums in the rear. They are connected by a system of tubes and hoses, linking them at each wheel to the master cylinder. As you step on the brake pedal, you are actually pushing against a plunger in the master cylinder. This forces the hydraulic oil through a series of tubes and hoses to the braking unit at each wheel.
With disc brakes, the fluid from the master cylinder is forced into a caliper where it presses against a piston. In turn, the piston squeezes two pads against the rotor which is attached to the wheel, forcing it to slow down or stop. With drums, the fluid is forced into the wheel cylinder, pushing the brake shoes out so that the linings are pressed against the drum, which is attached to the wheel, causing the wheel to stop. In either case, the friction of the pads or shoes, convert the forward motion of the vehicle into heat, causing them to wear out and eventually leading to a brake replacement.
As part of a brake repair, have the fluid checked to make sure it is pure with no air bubbles. Braking efficiency can be severely reduced if air compresses in the lines, causing sponginess to the pedal. If air is suspected, then it should be removed. This is an important brake repair that is required if such a condition exists.
